Preparing for 2008

The national championship Joseph Chevy Sr. Softball 60+ Team is in process of preparing for our 2008 season, our 3rd year together as a team. Our first tournament in 2008 is the "Tournament of Champions", Feb. 14-16 in Polk County, FL (near Lakeland).
Following this, will be tournaments in Cincinnati (Apr), Cleveland (May), Virginia (June), Columbus, OH (July), another national tournament in Aug/Sept., then finally the Winter Nationals, Naples, FL in November.
The team continues to spiff its image, with new bat bags for each player in 2008. Team uniform is really sharp with red hats, white T shirts, and blue shorts with red pinstripes.
The SW Ohio teammates play local softball in Cincinnati beginning early May at Eggleston Park, west on I-275 to Blue Rock Rd, then north two miles to the fields. NE Ohio teammates play in several different local leagues and locations in the Cleveland area.
We have added one new player to our 2008 roster, Wayne Wightman, 60, from Cleveland area. Wayne first played with the team in Naples in November, where he won all tournament honors, hitting .794, mainly as a DH. However, Wayne is also strong defensively and he is sure to find a position in the field in 2008.
The Joseph team has (19) men on the roster, but typically about (14) show up for any one tournament. The defensive alignment in 60+ age bracket is ten defensive fielders, including four outfielders. Our Joseph team is blessed with four of the fastest outfielders in senior softball, which is the strength of our defensive alignment.
By the end of January, we will solidify our 2008 tournament schedule and also we may be reclassified to the highest competitive bracket, Major Plus. If the team is reclassified to this higher level, tournament wins will be much harder to achieve due to the increased level of the competition.
Please look for our next update in January. Blogger Roy
